Surface Magic Water Surface Cleane Review

I contacted the manufacturer before purchasing this "Magic Stuff" and they were very vague (almost secretive) as to what it does.
They seemed to indicate that it "Magically" made floating debris somehow quickly find it's way to the skimmer basket.

I didn't understand how a few drops of stuff could do that, but I was intrigued enough that I bought it.

I'm STILL not sure what it does.

When you put it in the pool, floating debris DOES seem to "Magically" disappear, but it's not clear where it goes.

It doesn't find it's way to the skimmer.
I think it sinks to the bottom.

I suspect it changes the surface tension of the water and the debris sinks to the bottom.

Whether I'd rather leave things alone and have the stuff picked up by the skimmer, or add the MAGIC and have it sink to the bottom and get vacuumed - I'm not sure.

I doubt I'll be buying more.

The label was somewhat confusing as to the amount to use. All that was needed was a simple ratio such as mix one ounce per Gallon of water. Be careful not to use too much, the label said mix 4OZ with a gallon but be careful as that is for a big pond they use as an example. Too much information can be confusing. Seems to clear up the fish pond OK.

1 QT TILE CLEANER #300 Review

One of the most difficult problems in owning a pool is dealing with calcium deposits and other minerals that harden on the pool tile. We live in an area in Central Arizona that has very hard water with heavy minerals. When pool water evaporates it leaves behind that familiar ring on the tile.We tried several products to loosen up the calcium deposits before trying BIO-DEX 300 including the old pumice stone. We followed the instructions on the bottle carefully and gave the product an adequate amount of time to do it's thing. We scrubbed the area with scotchbright pad for several minutes before and after applying the product as instructed. Unfortunately after multiple attempts the calcium deposits remained in place and there was absolutely no difference in the appearance of the tile.The bottom line is save your money, use a pumice stone and good old fashioned elbow grease. I have yet to find a product that works on tile to remove calcium or hard water ring.I purchased the product at Paddock for $22.00 plus tax, and when I tried to return it, was told in Arizona no chemicals can be returned.So tell me what good is BIO-DEX 300 guarantee when the customer is not allowed to return the product? Paddock told me to call BIO-DEX and since they are also in Arizona, maybe they will take it back, yeah right! The company that comes up with a product that can be applied to the tile and can be just rinsed off with a minimal amount of effort, can make millions!

CuLator Metal Remover and Stain Preventer For Pools & Spas-1 Month Supply Review

I bought this not totally expecting it to work, basically because everything else I've tried has been a complete waste of money. CuLator lives up to most of its claims. I live in upstate New York, and the water can be pretty skunky.But CuLator did the trick. My iron, magnesium and copper levels are way down (I used AquaChek strips before and after to verify), and the water is noticeably clearer. I wanted to give 4-1/2 stars because it didn't completely get rid of all the stains. I talked with the company, and they said that with regular use, most of the stains should get better and new ones won't form, but some really bad stains (and I have a few) might not clean up all the way. We'll see. At least I now have control over the water quality. I like that I'm not pouring more chemicals into the pool - this seems to make maintaining pH and chlorine levels easier. It's simple to use, just drop a CuLator bag in the skimmer basket and let it do its thing. One thing, make sure you sink the bag all the way into the basket, or you might see the bag floating out into the pool. You have to wait a good 2-3 weeks before you see dramatic improvement, so you may want to double up on the first dose or two. I've been using this in my indoor pool since February with excellent results. I'm anxious to see how it works in my neighbor's outdoor pool this June.

I had run out of test strips last year near the end of the season (I keep my pool open quite late) and the local stores did not have any, so I found these on Amazon and the price was right (Strips in local stores that do all the tests that these do cost almost double what these cost!). I was skeptical about this stuff, but wanted to try it.My pond gets a lot of leaves and sticks in it and is hard to keep clean. There is always some sludge on the bottom. I just received this item thinking it would be great to clean my Spa Jacuzzie. it came with 8 batteries that I thought weren't included. I spent more than a half hour trying to insert the batteries into the battery holder. the battery holder was very poorly designed. The batteries kept slipping out. When I finally was able to secure it, the wand worked but had VERY LITTLE suction.It sucked up some toad eggs but could not suck up a leaf. If you think you could do better, try it!! Be thankful that Amazon has such a good return policy.

Heritage 8–16' Aluminum Ribbed Pole Review

The Amazon review form provided to me indicates the product is a "toy". No, this is a maintenance tool for my swimming pool. Having said that, my review of the telescoping pool pole is:
I love it so far. The pole is very lightweight and has an external locknut for the telescoping feature. (Although, the locknut is plastic so its durability is questionable; also, the locknut can be easily overtightened by hand, requiring a pipe wrench to loosen it). If it lasts a good while, the pole is well worth the price (around $20).

Smartpool Nitro Wall Scrubber In-Ground Pool Cleaner Review

I bought a Smartpool Nitro Wall Scrubber to replace a broken Dolphin unit. It is a great little robot with some nice features and only a few minor issues. Note that there are 3 products in the Nitro line: the Cleaner, the Wall Climber, and the Wall Scrubber. The Wall Scrubber (this product) appears to be the latest addition to their product family, with the most features.

First, the good:
1. Price - much less than the similarly-functioned robots I've seen elsewhere.
2. Thoroughness - It does a fantastic job of cleaning the entire pool, stairs and water-line included. The dolphin did a good job on the pool floor and the water-line, but it never got up on the stairs, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the Wall Scrubber up there. It didn't get the top step, mind you, but the bottom 2 steps were vacuumed.
3. Speed - it's much faster than I remember the Dolphin being, and normally gets the job done in about an hour for our 20'x30' pool. I think this is due to the way the Wall Scrubber's tracks work - in addition to movement, the tracks kick debris directly into the front- and back-filter intakes, so one pass is usually all that's needed for a complete clean.
4. Convenience - removing the filter in the Wall Scrubber is a cinch! There are two little latches that are quite easy to depress, and the filter unit lifts out of the body. Again, comparing this to the Dolphin, I MUCH prefer the Wall Scrubber. The Dolphin's latches were klunky and became stuck regularly, and the filter bag needed to be held in place with some little brackets.
5. Weight - nothing much to say here except that the unit is pretty light.
6. DIY repair. I haven't yet had to take advantage of this (I've only had the Wall Scrubber for 2 months), but if the robot does break down, it's good to know that all the parts that I might need are available from Smartpool. When my Dolphin broke down, I made the decision to junk the unit instead of sending it off for an expensive repair.

Now for some minor issues:
1. It seems to have some trouble with smaller rocks. Leaves, twigs, dirt and debris are all sucked up with no issues, but I do occasionally find some pebbles that the unit didn't get.
2. Leakage on removal - one of the features I was REALLY looking forward to was the forward drainage port. While the port works well, the filter's intake doors (front- and rear-) invariably get blocked open by a twig or something, and smaller debris always escapes when I remove the unit from the pool. I wish the springs holding the doors closed were a bit stronger.
3. No power-line swivel - the robot works well, as detailed above, but coiling the cable is tricky because it gets twisted during use, and must be unwound. The power-line IS kink-resistant, true - but it still gets pretty twisted.
4. NO CADDY. This was a little bit of a surprise for me, because their other Nitro's come with a "free" Caddy. Not so with the Wall Scrubber. I assume this is a cost-savings measure, but it's still a chore to have to carry the robot, with its cord and the power unit, back and forth from my storage area.

So, overall, I'm happy with the Wall Scrubber, and am glad we bought it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good, user-maintainable, robot without 2G's to burn on a remote control system.

I have a Dirt Devil upright carpet vacuum that I bought 15 years ago, and it still works as well as the day it was new.So when I wanted to replace my 10 year old Baracudda pool vacuum, I saw the Dirt Devil name and thought no further.I've had reason to regret my decision.

It does clean the pool out rather well when it works.The problem is that it doesn't work most of the time.These things propel themselves across the pool floor with a weighted pendulum that shakes back and forth when water going to the filter is pumped thru it, and that pendulum is supposed to start by itself when you turn on the filter pump.This one rarely does, so I have to pull it halfway up the pool wall and get it started manually.Then it usually stalls after an hour or two.The whole propelling mechanism is very poorly designed, and I never once had this problem with my old Baracudda.

Also, when it does work, it moves VERY slowly.My old Baracudda could circle my 24' pool in about 3 minutes.This thing takes more than 10.

And lastly, the Baracudda had a large deflector ring at the base to prevent it from getting hung up in the ladder.This unit has no such device, so I have to pull up the ladder when using it.

Spend a few extra bucks and get a Baracudda.Dirt Devil obviously has no expertise in this field.

Natural Chemistry 04021 16-Ounce Spa Perfect Pool Water Cleaner Review

I have a swim spa that is 1600 gallons so I was out looking for an inexpensive product to use to break down organics. This product works good and does what it advertises. I just wish I looked at the size compared to how much you have to use, this bottle is 16 oz and you have to use 1 oz per 100 gallons, so I had to use the entire bottle for one application. The instructions on the bottle also recommend using it once or twice a week, luckily I get away with using it less often than that because of amount of use. It is a great product for clearing up the water in your spa!

Hayward Black Phantom Turbo APC In Ground Pool Cleaner Review

This sweep showed great promise when I bought it 15 months ago. Unfortunately, I now consider it a $600 mistake. Here are some of the many problems: Reliability. One week after bringing it home, a hose split. Took 7 weeks to get a replacement part. Luckily, I had kept my old sweep. This was important this spring, when I opened the pool and found the sweep would only spin. Took three weeks to fix. Next Problem: Design. My sweep ties itself in knots at an alarming rate. I can't rely on it when I am not at home. Also, when fishing the sweep from the pool, the design allows --- you almost cannot avoid --- dumping the contents of the bag back into the pool. Next Problem: Service. The service locator showed a dealer six miles from my house. This dealer never returned my calls. Although I wrote Phantom about this problem, the dealer is still listed on their "service locator" page. The nearest dealer beyond that was 20 miles from the house. If you buy this sweep, be sure to keep your old one. You'll be needing it.
