Poolvergnuegen PVN White Pressure In-Ground Pool Cleaner Review

We have a vinyl in-ground pool. The sides meet the bottom in the shallow end at a near 90 degrees and the steps have box corners that meet the pool floor. Our first pool cleaner always hit the wall, then either got stuck or traveled along to the steps and then got stuck in the corners at the base of the steps. The backup valve thing kinda worked but only when the system was perfectly cleaned. The only way I could get the silly thing to work was to install a wheel on the front of the unit. That worked until the $70 wheel broke after a year. Ug.

I had all but given up hope until I found this system by POOLVERGNUEGEN. The unit does not have a backup valve and there is no inline filter to empty. I installed it according to their directions and it worked as advertised out of the box. It does not get stuck by any of the walls or by the steps like my old cleaner. It spins around just like the the company says it does. This thing is absolutely awesome! It is the most hassle free low maintenance pool cleaner I've ever found. I just cannot say enough about how amazing this thing is.

SmartPool ChlorEase Above Ground Saltwater Chlorinator Review

I bought this device last summer.Being skeptical, I really read into it and reluctantly decided to give it a shot.I have followed the instructions to the "T" and always kept my water chemistry in the recommended range per the manufacturers instructions.I also followed the recommended cleaning and maintenance per their instructions.It worked great last summer, BUT not this summer.

I never plugged the unit up until I had all of the water chemistry to their standards, which took a while this year.When I plugged the unit in, it began to bubble, as it should, so I thought everything was okay.It never created enough chlorine this year, even though I had it running 24 hours a day.It finally stopped working all together about half-way through the summer.Upon my inspection of the device, I found the transformer that powers the device had melted its housing!

I called the manufacturer and they told me to send it in so that they could look at it and see what was wrong with it.Two weeks after returning it to them (my cost) I got notice from them that the device was supposedly caked up with a bunch of calcium.They told me that because it broke due to my failure to maintain it correctly that I would have to pay $100 to get it replaced by them!I told them that it wasn't that way when I put it in the box because you could see the platinum plates clearly (I would have cleaned it first if it would have been caked up, but it wasn't).They told me that I was wrong, that it was caked up inside, but you can easily see right through the device and I KNOW it wasn't like that!I told them that I had always maintained it like they said to and that I had just cleaned it about two weeks before I figured out that it had stopped working.She then changed her story to say that the ONLY reason that their transformers melt like that is because they weren't maintained correctly.She would not even admit that there was the possibility that the transformer could have just messed up on its own.

I tried to get them to replace it under their warranty, but they refused to stating that it was all my fault!I finally just told them to send it back to me the way it was so that I could try to get it replaced by the credit card company that I bought it with and they said that they would gladly send it back to me, but that I had to pay $15 to have them ship it back to me!So not only did they call me a liar about maintaining it and not stand behind their warranty, but they expect me to pay to ship the broken unit twice!

This device did do what it was supposed to, and I was actually a big proponent of it.I even recommended it to several people, but I would not recommend this item at all now knowing what type of people are running the company.

Pool Stain Scrubbing Mitt Review

After only a short bought of scrubbing, the scrubber part of the pad disintigrated and fell off the glove.
The pieces of pad floated around my spa and pool for quite a while before eventually finding their way into the skimmer or bottom drain.
I had to fish the pieces in the spa out by hand...

Could have bought a pair of gloves and a couple of scrubber pads and done much better.

New Intex Deluxe Saltwater System w/ 2nd Stage Copper Ionization - Model# 54601E Review

We used this product all last summer and now are using it this summer.I can't say enought about how I love it!!!I have a 18x52frame pool and this things works wonders.It does exactly what it is supposed to do.For my pool it takes 4 40lb bags of water softner salt pellets.I dump it in with pump running.It dissolves in about 2 hours with my 4000 gph intex pump (if your pool is 18" or larger always upgrade to the 4000 gph pump, you will be glad you did).After adding the salt about 3 hours later I turned on my chlorinator (if you have a smaller pump it will take a lot longer to mix the salt properly).Ran it for 8 hours the first day, just to build up the chlorine level then after that ran it for 6 hrs per day.It was an absolute dream.does exactly what it is supposed to do.The negative for me are as follows.If the power goes out you have to re-program it and you can't set a specific time.You just have to go out and turn it on the time of day you want it to turn on every day ( the reason this was annoying to me is that my breaker tends to trip every once in a while and it would screw up my schedule, but truly no big deal in the big picture).Secondly is toward the end of the summer my ph got out of wack and it left big deposits in the cholorinator to the point the water wouldn't flow through so it would automatically shut off.You just have to open it all up and get the deposit build up off of the coils, but it got annoying.This wasn't a problem with the chlorinator it was a problem with my pump not pumping like it should (upgraded to a larger pump and it took care of that) and the fact that I let my ph get out of wack.This year I plan on watching my ph better and just automatically cleaning the coils(it's not really a coil it is actually plates on the inside of the chlorinator) and checking them every other week.Even though it does have it's issues,it is the best thing that ever happened to my pool maintanance.Love it and would recommend it hands down.Just make sure you read all the instructions on how to run it and maintain it.

Hayward Kingray Pool Cleaner Review

I bought this pool cleaner for my husband for Father's Day. I didn't realize that it wouldn't work for a pool that is 40' long. No where did I read that in the description. I was very disappointed with the hose hookup, as well. The hose comes in sections and must be put together and taken back apart for storage after using. It would take longer to do all this than to go ahead and clean it the old-fashioned way. I didn't rate the cleaner, because we never used it and I returned it. I am still awaiting reimbursement on my credit card, as well.

Pentair Legend Platinum IG Pool Cleaner LL105PM Review

After years of owning -- and needing to repair -- a succession of the top-of-the-line Polaris pool sweeps, I got fed up and went for the Legend Platinum. How I wish I had had the sense to do it years ago. Its only flaw is that every so often a large leaf from a nearby magnolia tree gets caught between one of the drive wheels and the body and stops it from moving. But it otherwise is far superior to the Polaris, and its twist-off bag is much easier to use than the Polaris bags.

Hayward 5500TC Viio Turbo Pressure Pool Cleaner Review

I bought the viio Turbo to replace a Hayward viper which finally died. The system comes with every part you could want including a presure gauge for adjustin your pump, a measuring tape for length of hose and even teflon pipe tape.

It took about 30 minutes to assemble, test and then start. It is now cleaning the pool without a hitch. I had tried a Pentair Legend but it would not climb out of the 10' deep end in our 20' by 40' pool. The turbo has no problems and covers well.

I highly recommend for a larger pool.

Pentair Legend IG Pool Cleaner LL105G $50 Mail Rebate Review

Oh where do I begin???This Pentair Legend Platinum cleaner makes me CRAZY!First off, (#1)the thing will not clean my deep end.The hose is long enough, but it never seems to make it down there and stay long enough to clean up anything.We have adjusted the pressure, and the direction of the jets, to no avail.
#2)The little bugger gets so wrapped up in its hose that we find it tied up in knots almost daily.
#3) Like one other user posted, the hose gets caught up in the cleaner and wedged into between itself and the front wheel all the time.
#4) When it DOES pick up something into its bag, you can't get the unit out of the water to take the bag off without loosing most of the bags contents back into the pool from the bottom side.The rubber flapper inside doesn't keep anything in the bag. SO once the unit stops running, the contents simply dumps back out into the water.
#5) Assuming you have anything left in the bag to dump, the velcro at the top of the bag refuses to stay closed so that you can place it back in the water secured.

We've only had our pool since Aug 09, so we haven't looked around at replacing the Pentair, but I believe we've given it enough "time" to pass a valid judgment on it...it's failed miserably!We will be looking at other units very soon.God luck to you!

Hayward Phantom Robotic Pool Cleaner w/o booster pump Review

The Phantom is overpriced and really poorly designed. We just had ours replaced after basically every part of it (hose, housing, wheels, jets) had broken - our pool expert (NOT a Leslie's employee pushing the Phantom) confirmed that the issues we had occur widely among his other customers and shared some other horror stories.

We also had similar problems to Franklin (see other Phantom review), where the Phantom would get twisted up and generally stuck in anything even closely resembling a corner...

We ended up switching to the Polaris 380 instead. We had a Polaris model at our last house and were really happy with it, based on initial results I'm very happy with our decision.

Pro-V Dirt Devil In-ground Pool Cleaner Review

All suction-side cleaners are about the same. They are very simple, with essentially 1 moving part and a plastic spring. This unit is no better or worse than the others.

Pros:
-decently made, I've not had issues with material degradation or anything.
-It does a nice job cleaning the pool of small to moderate sized particles, up to small soft leaves.
-It goes from the bottom all the way to the waterline. It will get at least the lower steps as well.
-No extra equipment to buy, plug it into your existing system
-simple: no extra cords pumps etc

Cons:
-Needs substantial suction. You will probably have to turn down or off the other skimmers/drains to make it work. Every pool will take some adjustment depending how your equipment is set up. If you have lo-flow VFD equipment, it will not work.
-Compromises the flow/suction to the rest of the pool. The skimmer it's plugged into will not skim. This increases the load on the pool.
-only works when the pump is running
-tends to stick to a circle around the skimmer it's placed in. If you have a central skimmer, great. If only skimmers at the ends of a long pool, it will not cover the far end.
-Most seriously: All debris goes through your piping and into the pump basket/filter. Every suction-side cleaner of this type has this issue. It is extra load on your existing system. Inline filter bags are available and are a good idea
-will not handle larger debris: leaves, small sticks, etc. It will clog the mechanism. You must still fish acorns, twigs, leaves, etc out manually

Overall, I'd say the best use of this type of cleaner is for pools that get moderate loads of small particles, with a central skimmer. Those who live in dusty climates, and have problems only with insects & sand, will probably be best served. The Dirt Devil can occasionally be found online for $150 or so, which is a screaming deal for this type of cleaner.

I gave it a 3 as it does what it does well, but what it does is limited.

Natural Chemistry 04034 2-Liter Spa Perfect Pool Water Cleaner Review

Before buying Natural Chemistry Spa Perfect, I used another natural product which was supplied with my new tub, and it works great. That product ran out so I tried Spa Perfect, and with 2 new filters and a fresh water change, it only took 1 week for the water to cloud up. I used their product "Clear and Perfect" to get rid of the cloudiness with no sucess. After following their directions for nearly 4 weeks, my tub does not smell, but still has a cloudy, unsatisfactory appearance. The Spa Perfect product is a brown color like dark tea with particulate material floating in it which seems strange. I've e-mailed the company to ask about this with no response from them. My suggestion is to try a different natural product as I intend to do.

Blue Pearl Robotic In-ground Pool Cleaner Review

I live in Miami and I purchased the Blue Pearl about 6 months ago for my in-ground 15 X 30 gunite pool. I use it one to two times a week. I was apprehensive about spending this much money for a pool cleaner, especially when I couldn't find any kind of consistent positive reviews for robotic cleaners in general.
But, even though my pool looks perfect, it is old and plumbing for it has always been marginal. Which makes vacuuming slow with not enough suction to run a typical automatic pool cleaner. So I was forced to consider a more expensive robotic cleaner.
Overall, I have been very happy with my decision to purchase the Blue Pearl. I have gotten plenty of use out of it without any problems and it does a really great job of cleaning if you use it regularly. It has never hung up on the ladder or the steps. It goes to the surface and turns around and goes back down the wall. It will clean my pool in about 1.5-2.0 hours but will shut itself off after 3 hours. To minimize wear and tear, if I am around, I will turn it off when the pool is clean. You are then supposed to let it set for at least 10 minutes to let the motor cool before removing the cleaner. You are also not supposed to leave the cleaner in the pool indefinitly I guess to prevent water getting past the motor seals. The only hassle is cleaning the filter bag which takes about 5 minutes but is still much less than the time to clean the pool your self.
I am sure it is made by the same people that make Aquabot (the warranty address is the same) and most of the components if you look at parts schematics are identical.
I wasn't impressed with quality control however. When I first put my Blue Pearl in the pool, it simply didn't move. I took it out and found that the drive belt and one of the gears wasn't installed correctly. I took it apart, it was a bit of a hassle but easier than returning it, and reassembled it correctly. It then worked perfectly, much to my relief. Still, it shows that company does not test run their products after assembly.
For the average home owner, I see no reason to spend more for some of the other fancier robotic cleaners. This one works great and I would have to say, I would get the Blue Pearl again. Check around as prices vary widely.

GLB Pool & Spa Products 71268 10-Pound Chlorine Stabilizer Review

I bought this last year so I could just use bleach as a chlorine source.BUT, the granules never dissolve.All the granules end up eventually being swept up by the automatic pool cleaner.I couldn't tell that they did anything.I used test strips that check for stabilizer content and it never did increase my readings.I have even left a pound or so soaking in 5 gal. of water for weeks (stirring occasionally) and still no dissolution.It could be white gravel for all I can tell.

Hayward 6000B Phantom Turbo Pressure Pool Cleaner Review

Stay away from this unit. It's rich with features and impressive looking, but expensive and poorly manufactured. I've owned one for over 2 years and it workedok for about a year only. In the last few months, it's been nothing but trouble just untangling it and replacing parts.The weakest link is the main hose that is designed as a configurable series of about 24" long plastic pipes interconnected via flexible elbow joints. Unless you're very careful untangling this thing when it wraps up tightly (at least once a week) the hard plastic nubs on the elbow joints will snap off as it gets very brittle over time. This just happened to me again last weekend and it will be my last time .... I'm going back to the Polaris.

Natural Chemistry 03122 2-Liter Pool First Aid Review

We are not using this product for anything other than a pollen product, and after several uses it has done pretty well. It does what it says it will do, and is a little "bit" of an expensive solution for a small problem, and wish it would last in the pool a little longer. But once again, we didn't use this for anything but pollen, so it's affect on algae or other pollens that aren't as rapid as ours may last. As with most Natural Chemistry products, the conditioning is fantastic, and really give the water a great silky feel. if you haven't used this or pool perfect, you should give it a shot!

Hayward 6060 Booster Pool Pump Review

I had a previous version of this booster pump to run water fountains and pool cleaner.it has metal fitting and I was required to replace them every year.The main pump timer went out and the booster timer kick in when there was no water running through the system and the pump froze.
I ordered the new pump it arrive in a shorter time than expected. I changed out the pumps my self in about 30 min.the new pump comes with PVC fittings and I should not have the rusting problem as with the old pump. New Pump runs great.

First of all, this isn't a toy and it should show up in some other category, so I haven't rated its value as a toy.

I recently bought an Intex above ground pool for my family, with which we are well pleased.Wanting to save money, I made a homemade skimmer out of a stick, a hangar, an old screen from a door, and, or course, duct tape.It worked well enough but was a little flimsy and not as large as I would have liked it.

This Maintenance Kit was an inexpensive alternative to my homemade skimmer.It's sturdier and longer than the one I made, as well as having a larger net area.This part of the Maintenance Kit is the best part.

Pool vacuums can be fairly expensive, especially considering that the pool we bought was only about $100.Rather than buying a more expensive one, I bought this kit.It's actually intriguing that the vacuum works by connecting to your garden hose.

But I've been disappointed in the vacuum.It doesn't seem to have enough suction, and leaves keep getting caught in its mouth.The material that is supposed to catch the debris tore almost immediately, but this was easily remedied by replacing it with an old sock.

All in all, you get what you pay for: the skimmer is great but the vacuum is weak.

Hydro Tools 9200 Easy View Pool/Spa Tube Thermometer Review

Ok, so granted this is a pool not lake thermometer, but I would have assumed that it would take more than a week for the algae to completely cover the plastic window.From what I can tell it seems to work fine, but I can't really read it so who knows.If you are buying this for a chlorinated environment I think you will be very happy, but otherwise move on to something else.

Hayward Sun Ray In-Ground Pool Cleaner Review

Disclaimer:I purchased this item from an online pool store, not Amazon - probably due to the lack of any reviews (positive or negative) on Amazon.

This unit ships in a large box.The hose segments are probably three feet in length.The hose length is probably adequate for most home pools.Assembly is quick and easy and with any basic knowledge of your pool, you can conceivably be using it in a matter of 10 minutes from delivery. The directions are very basic, include a lot of illustration, and very little in terms of descriptions of parts and troubleshooting. I purchased it about 3 months ago and still remember being confused with how to use the "pressure regulator". Again, there are pictures to show you how to do it, but little in terms of what it's designed to do and how it can help you.I tend to learn by seeing an entire system and how the parts of a system interact - and there was none of this included in the manual or the [...] site.

As for operation, it has one pendulum-like swivel inside that flickers from front to back, creating momentum that moves it along while keeping suction from the pump.I frequently have to flick the swivel to start the motion.Once moving, the pendulum freely moves.There are two "handles" on the top and bottom of the body, one has a blue moving thing (called the float in the directions) - but no matter where I place it, it just slides to the bottom of the handle. I think its purpose is to balance the unit and help it move, but I don't know what it does because the directions didn't illustrate that.The website doesn't help either.

It doesn't get up the walls like the ads say.It does a great job of cleaning the deep side.It rarely, if ever, makes it to the steps and the shallow side even though there is plenty of hose to get there.

In fact, it frequently gets stuck on the suction grate at the bottom of the pool. I have to get the cleaning brush to nudge it off. I have to push it far away, or the until will steer right back to it.That's pretty frustrating.

I looked at the "troubleshooting" portion of the manual - it tells me to fix or adjust parts, but these are not actually labeled anywhere on the directions.

Also, I have one black rubber fitting that came from the box, but is never mentioned or illustrated in the directions.Unsure what it does...

probably would work well for most pools because it is a simple unit
hose length is good for most home pools
minimal moving parts - a huge plus from what I hear from owners of other makes/models
where it does clean, it cleans very well

directions don't adequately describe how the cleaner works as part of the system of the pool
directions don't address a frustrating problem, how to get the unit to stop parking on the grate at the bottom
directions for troubleshooting include names of parts which are not actually labeled in the directions(i.e.Flow deflector) or parts labeled are never mentioned in the directions (i.e. float)
Admission: When I bought this, I was new to owning a pool. It's possible that resolving my problem is just one trick away - and that an experienced pool owner would know these things.But I think that validates my issue - specifically that the manual and help resources are not adequate for simple, out of box operation.

Natural Chemistry 05235 2-Liter Pool Perfect Concentrate and Phos Free Pool Cleaner Review

We tried "Pool Perfect with Phos Free" this year for the first time.We've had this pool for 30 years and it's NEVER BEEN THIS CLEAR! No doubt that Phos Free deserves much of the credit.

We also installed a Hayward/ Gold Line chlorine generator this year.(Hopefully I will find time to review that product too).That may deserve some of the credit.We like that product too, but if I had to choose which product to try, I would try the phos-free first.Why?Because it does not require an up-front capital investment, nor installation.You just add to your pool.

Let me tell you about our experience and what we've learned.

A clear understanding of how this product works will help you succeed with it.You pour a small amount of Phos-Free in your skimmer.It scavenges phosphorus from the water so that algae has no phosphorus.

Why phosphorus?Phosphorus is one of the essential macro-nutrients that plants need.That's why they put phosphorus in fertilizer.If you buy 5-10-5 fertilizer, it's got 10% phosphorus; the middle number refers to the amount of phosphorus.Somebody figured out that phosphorus is the easiest nutrient to remove - and starve the algae - and they created PhosFree to do the job.Their web site [...] has a lot of info about this. I found the web site to be informative and credible.I majored in chemistry in college so I'm pretty well prepared to judge its credibility.

Even some pool professionals don't understand this product.PhosFree can't kill algae. It can only prevent it from growing. Some pool guys told me that they had tried a phosphate scavenger once in a pool that was green, green, green, and chlorine would not fix it.They tried their brand of phosphate scavenger (not Phos Free) and the pool was still green.They might have had more success if they understood phosphate scavengers. They used a phosphate test kit and they swore that there was no phosphorus in the pool (the test kit can detect as little as 100 parts per BILLION).They did not understand that the phosphorus was already in the algae.So if you can vacuum away any algae (or leaves) before you start, that will help.Leaves (or grass, etc) can release phosphorus and other nutrients as they decay, feeding the algae.

The pool guys also might have had more success if they had used enzymes.This product also includes an enzyme that they call PoolPerfect. It breaks down organic matter, including dead algae, releasing the phosphate so that the PhosFree can scavenge it up.The pool guys might have had more success if they had used this combination product.

How did I use it?I bought a phosphorus test kit to monitor phosphorus levels so I could tell what's going on.I learned a lot.You can do this too, or you can just add a little bit every week.I noticed that as it scavenges phosphorus, it also raises the pressure in the sand filter.So I guess that the phosphorus is captured in the sand filter until it ultimately gets backwashed down the drain.Using PhosFree I could keep the phosphorus below 100 ppb.The aforementioned web site states that algae cannot divide with less than 125 ppb of phosphate in the water.

I have read everything on their web site [...].I've used the product for a full season, and our pool is CLEARER THAN EVER, even though we're using less chlorine, and we stopped using other algaecide completely.We like having less of that other junk in the water.

What about cost?We found that a maintenance dose of 4 to 8 ounces per week is sufficient for our 25,000 gallon pool.So a two liter bottle of "PoolPerfect plus PhosFree" lasted us more than 8 weeks.That comes down to about$5.00 per week or about $100 for the pool season.But we're saving money by using less chlorine, less algaecide, and running the filter for fewer hours per day.We like the fact that we don't have to handle as much chlorine and we've reduced our environmental impact.And we're using the pool more.

We'll definitely be using this product again next year.

Hayward Large Capacity Leaf Canister for Pool Cleaners Review

I have purchased several of the large Hayward Leaf Canisters and I prefer them over the smaller Hayward Canister. The larger canister comes with a synthetic cloth filter bag inside versus the plastic bucket that is used in the smaller canister.The filter bag holds smaller particles and I have not had to replace one yet.
